To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what new instructions have been sent to visa officers at British posts abroad about the way in which they should operate the primary purpose rule, in the light of the decisions in ex parte Kumar and ex parte Hogue; and when these instructions will be published.

No instructions have been issued, but further guidance was sent to posts in the Indian sub-continent on 8 July 1988 and subsequently to other posts.
