To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the number of value added tax refund claims under Customs and Excise notice 719, refund of value added tax to self-builders, processed during the fiscal years 1986–87 and 1987–88.

[holding answer 18 July 1988]: The number of do-it-yourself housebuilders claims processed in the fiscal years 1986–87 and 1987–88 was 8,950 and 9,254 respectively.
