§ Mr. ChopeAt 31 March 1987, local authorities in England are estimated to have held £3,714 million of cash backed receipts attributable to their housing functions. Returns for 31 March 1988 are not yet available, but such receipts are estimated to have increased by then to £4.2 billion.
