§ 59. Mr. BradleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his reply of 22 June,Official Report, column 621, if he will make a further statement regarding the outcome of his discussions with representatives of Cheshire county council concerning the future of the Arpley Meadows dumping site.
§ Mr. MoynihanAt my meeting with representatives of Cheshire county council we discussed the proposal to import domestic waste from the United States of America and the problems this may pose with regard to the county's long-term disposal plan, local amenity and plant and animal health.
I was most encouraged to learn of the seriousness with which the council is dealing with these problems as part of 685W its responsibilities for planning and licensing of waste disposal. The Government are continuing to examine the wider implications of the proposals. Meanwhile it remains for the council to consider the proposal that has been put to it taking all relevant factors into account.
The hon. Member will have noted my remarks in the Adjournment debate on 29 June during which I made the Government's position clear.
