HC Deb 19 July 1988 vol 137 c552W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

To ask the Secretary of Slate for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement about discussions with Church leaders based on the consultation document on the reform of education making special reference to the place of religious education in the proposed common curriculum.

Dr. Mawhinney

My right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State, and I have met representatives of the four main Churches. Our discussions ranged across the proposals contained in the consultative document including the place of religious education in the curriculum. The Church representatives have been assured, as has the House, that no decisions have yet been taken on the way forward on any aspect of the education reform proposals, nor will they be until all representations have been fully considered.
