To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will set out in tabular form(a) the volume and (b) the toxicity or radiotoxicity of wastes expected to arise from electricity generated, respectively, by (i) coal, (ii) oil, (iii) gas, (iv) nuclear fuel and (v) renewable energies in the years (x) 1979 to present and (y) 1988 to 2025.

The full information requested is not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. However, in 1985 the CEGB gave evidence to the Royal Commission on environmental pollution on its non-radioactive waste management work; this information was published in the commission's 11th report. The CEGB also contributes to the annual United Kingdom radioactive waste inventory; the 1987 edition of which will be published shortly.
