§ 59. Miss WiddecombeTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the breast-feeding initiative by the National Childbirth Trust and other bodies.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe National Childbirth Trust breastfeeding promotion group, the La Leche League, and the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers are undertaking a joint long term initiative to persuade more mothers to start and maintain breastfeeding. The Government welcome this development, and are contributing more than £100,000 to the initiative over the next two years; the baby milk manufacturers have in addition agreed to contribute £30,000 for this year.
