To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many licence applications have been made to his Department in each of the past five years for the discharge of radioactive waste.

[holding answer 13 January 1988]: The total number of authorisations issued by this Department for the disposal or discharge of radioactive waste in each of the past five years is set out in the table. These have each been in response to a specific application from the organisation responsible for the waste generation.
