HC Deb 20 January 1988 vol 125 c721W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, pursuant to his reply,Official Report, 30 November 1987, column 372, to the hon. Member for Meirionydd Nant Conwy (Dr. Thomas) on alleged black market sales of plutonium in Sudan, this issue has been raised elsewhere within the structures of the EEC.

Mr. Mellor

The matter has been discussed in political co-operation but these discussions produced no evidence of a black market in nuclear weapons material in Khartoum.

Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has received representations and a transcript from the "20–20 Vision" television programme regarding allegations of a black market in plutonium in the Sudan; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

My right hon. and learned Friend has received representations from "20–20 Vision" television, which he is considering. We have a transcript of the programme in question, but no evidence to support allegations that weapons-grade nuclear material has been on sale in Sudan.
