§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what response has been made by Her Majesty's Government to the recent suggestion by Dr. Blix, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, that the agency's expertise in safeguarding nuclear materials should be used in future verification of nuclear disarmament treaties.
§ Mr. MellorDr. Blix has made no approach to us. In our view, treaty verification is a matter for the parties to each treaty. But if they needed to seek assistance from an international organisation to enhance verification the International Atomic Energy Agency's experience could be valuable.
