HC Deb 18 January 1988 vol 125 c475W
Mr. O'Brien

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he intends to take to ensure that tax collection offices are adequately staffed to obviate second applications and final demand notices being sent to taxpayers in error.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 14 January 1988]: Tax collection offices are complemented according to the work they are required to do, and I have no reason to believe that these offices are inadequately staffed. Furthermore, there is no evidence to suggest that errors in the issue of applications for tax is a widespread problem, but if the hon Member has evidence to the contrary I will look into the matter.

Mr. O'Brien

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many(a) second application and (b) final demand notes for income tax payments have been sent out by the Inland Revenue in error during the last 12 months.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 14 January 1988]: Statistics on the number of second applications or final demand notes issued in error are not available.
