§ Mr. IngramTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he intends to commission a further report on the dispersal of Civil Service jobs, in the light of the improvements in communication, information technology and the transport network, since the Hardman report was first published.
§ Mr. Brooke[holding answer 15 January 1988]: The programme of dispersal announced in 1979 is nearing completion. The Government are preparing and will announce in due course a policy to succeed it. This policy 476W will reflect the factors mentioned by the hon. Member and the potential benefits to the Civil Service and to the localities concerned of siting work in areas where labour supply conditions and costs are favourable.
