HC Deb 12 January 1988 vol 125 c206W
Mr. Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any proposals for changes in the guidelines issued to British manufacturers to further limit exports to Iran so as to include non-lethal equipment ancillary to lethal military equipment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

Subject to any United Nations arms embargo resolution to enforce SCR 598, we have no plans to change the guidelines on the sale of military equipment to Iran and Iraq. These already prohibit the export of all defence-related equipment that could significantly enhance the capability of either side to prolong or exacerbate the conflict. We continue to urge other countries to adopt similar stringent measures.
