§ Mr. Ronnie CampbellTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what has been the estimated number of jobs created or saved by regional or European Economic Community grant aid since 1979 in the Blyth and Cramlinton employment areas.
§ Mr. AtkinsIt was estimated that around 4,350 jobs would be created or safeguarded as a result of regional aid granted in the Blyth Valley local authority district since 1979. This does not include aid under the original regional development grant scheme which was not job-related and for which sufficiently detailed information is in any case not available.
Notes:—
129W(1) The above information includes both regional selective assistance (RSA) and the revised regional development grant (RDG) scheme introduced in November 1984: RSA and RDG are sometimes both granted in respect of the same project. There may therefore be an element of double-counting in the jobs figure quoted.(2) Aid from the European regional development fund (ERDF) may be payable in respect of companies in receipt of RDG and/or RSA. Such ERDF support does not go to companies, but is instead retained by the Government to increase the total level of assistance to industry.
