To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects the first stretch of the London-Edinburgh electrification scheme to become operational.

A full electric service from London to Huntingdon and Peterborough has been operating since May 1987. Services to Leeds are now expected to start in August 1988, a year earlier than originally planned.
