HC Deb 11 January 1988 vol 125 c134W
19. Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy towards future levels of revenue subsidy for London Regional Transport.

Mr. David Mitchell

It is not expected that LRT will need further revenue support after the end of the current financial year, but substantial grants will continue to be made to finance capital investment.

20. Mr. Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on capital investment in London Regional Transport's Underground in the current and the next financial year and with particular reference to plans for capital expenditure on the Northern line.

Mr. David Mitchell

Capital expenditure this year on the underground is expected to be £199 million, and well in excess of £200 million next year. Current plans for the Northern line include an additional eight trains next year, and investment of £45 million over the next three years on continuing station modernisation, lifts and escalators, signalling and better communications and passenger information systems.
