To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of(a) women and (b) men medical students who qualified in (a) 1958, (b) 1968 and (c) 1978 were found to be practising 10 years later.

Information is not available in the form requested. The Department is funding a long-term project of research on doctors' careers. A survey of doctors five years after qualification has been published(British Medical Journal volume 285, 14 August 1982); a survey 10 years after qualification is about to be completed by the medical careers research group at Churchill hospital, Oxford.
