HC Deb 26 February 1988 vol 128 cc382-4W
Mr. McTaggart

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people have been prosecuted in each of the last five years for non-payment of television licences; and what percentage of those were pensioners.

Mr. Renton

Figures are given in the table. These have been supplied by the national television licence records office, which instigates all prosecutions for television licence evasion.

No information is held by that office about the ages of those prosecuted. However, Home Office records show that in 1985 and 1986 fewer than 20 defendants proceeded against in England and Wales for offences under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts were of pensionable age.

at each such prison for the years 1985, 1986 and 1987; and if he has any plans to increase prison officer family accommodation.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The information requested is not readily available for 1985 and 1986 and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. For 1987, the information, as at 30 September, is as follows. There are no plans to increase prison officer family accommodation.
