§ Mr. FauldsTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his answer of 9 February,Official Report, column 125, why it is not possible except at disproportionate cost to state (a) how much money given by Her Majesty's Government was applied for training and scholarships for (i) Greek Cypriots and (ii) Turkish Cypriots in the last three financial years and (b) how many (i) Greek Cypriots and (ii) Turkish Cypriots received training or scholarships funded wholly or partly by Her Majesty's Government in the last three financial years.
§ Mr. Chris PattenWithin the technical assistance training programme expenditure on training and scholarships for the period in question is not recorded separately in terms of whether the recipients are from the Greek or Turkish parts of the island. The costs are attributed to the country as a whole as expenditure is incurred. To determine the sums expended by community would require examination of all the files of those who received awards in the three years concerned.
Following my earlier reply, arrangements are being made to ensure that in future both numbers of recipients and sums expended from aid funds on each community are recorded.
