§ Mr. GristCapital and revenue public expenditure under the urban programme (including urban development grant) in Wales for each year since 1979 is as follows:
114Wwas provided to local authorities via the urban programme. Of this the Welsh Office met 75 per cent. of the approved expenditure, the remaining 25 per cent. being met by the sponsoring local authority.
Local authorities' gross current expenditure on sport and recreation in this period was £345.5 million. This was financed in part by the rate support grant which is unhypothocated and by specific and supplementary grants of £18.3 million.
