To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give a start date and completion estimate for the A5 Shrewsbury bypass.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Subject to completion of the outstanding statutory procedures which include the compulsory purchase order, construction of the A5 Telford-Shrewsbury and A49 Shrewsbury bypasses is expected to start in the autumn of 1989 and take about two years.
