HC Deb 18 February 1988 vol 127 c712W
Mr. Nicholas Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will raise at his next meeting with the chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority the circumstances in which the film "Some Mother's Son", containing deception and misleading assertions about the British Army's activities in Ulster, was shown on Channel 4.

Mr. Renton

The Independent Broadcasting Authority has the statutory responsibility for ensuring that the programmes it broadcasts maintain a high general standard in all respects and in particular in respect of their content and quality. I am sure the authority will have taken due note of the lessons of this unfortunate incident, for which Channel 4 has already apologised publicly.
