To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many cases of reported insider dealing are currently under investigation by his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maude

There are 14 cases where inspectors appointed under section 177 of the Financial Services Act are currently investigating possible contraventions of the insider dealing legislation.

The appointment of such inspectors is considered in all appropriate cases which are brought to the attention of my Department.
