HC Deb 11 February 1988 vol 127 c317W
Mr. Carrington

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he has any plans to expand the YTS scheme in his Department during the current year.

Mr. Fowler

YTS has established itself as a high-quality training programme for young people with a nationally recognised record leading to jobs and vocational qualifications.

YTS has had tremendous support from employers, the training profession and most particularly from young people themselves. YTS leads to jobs. It is the best start in working life young people can have. During the last six months the Department of Employment group has provided 120 training places. It is my intention that this number should be increased. The DE group will be making a further 80 placements available in 1988–89 bringing the total to 200.
