The economic assumptions underpinning the Government's plans set out in the 1988 public expenditure White Paper (Cm. 288), including the assumptions for general inflation as measured by the GDP deflator and the RPI, are set out in volume I, chapter 2, paragraph 4.

The Government do not publish assumptions about the future movements in particular prices affecting individual expenditure programmes though, in planning and managing their programmes, Departments take account of the prices of the goods and services they purchase.
