§ Mr. Simon HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his latest estimate of the public sector revenue costs of housing homeless families in each of the London boroughs(a) by providing them with newly built council dwellings, (b) by providing them with council dwellings acquired from the private sector and newly improved for letting and (c) by providing them with bed-and-breakfast accommodation; and if he will publish these figures on a comparable basis with those published in his replies to the hon. Member for Southwark and Bermondsey of Thursday 21 January, Official Report, column 826.
§ Mrs. RoeThe information on which my hon. Friend's estimates of the new build and acquisition and renovation costs were based was Londonwide and cannot reliably be 297W broken down by individual authority area. The information on bed and breakfast costs was derived from CIPFA's publication "Homelessness Statistics, 1986–87 Actuals", copies of which are in the Library. This gives figures of gross expenditure and household days for those authorities which responded to CIPFA's questionnaire.
