Mr. Stott

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what has been the contribution of heavy duty longwall mining equipment to the improvements in the productivity of British Coal for the years 1985–86 and 1986–87;

(2) what information he has into how many British coal faces utilise heavy duty mining equipment, and as to when all faces will be so equipped.
