§ Mr. StottTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give his estimate of the growth of the international trade in coal by the end of the century.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe Department does not undertake such estimates. However, a widely known projection of international coal trade in the OECD area is that published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in "Coal Information 1987". This projects that total hard coal imports by OECD countries in 2000 will be 65 per cent. higher than the level in 1985.
