Mr. Tim Smith

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster when he expects to complete his consideration of representations in relation to a possible breach by Lonrho plc of sections 204 to 206 of the Companies Act 1985 in relation to share dealings in House of Fraser plc during the period from the date of the inspector's interim report into share dealings in House of Fraser to the date of its acquisition by A1 Fayed Investment and Trust (UK) Limited.

These matters are kept under review, but at present no action is considered necessary.

By letter dated 16 November 1987, my right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry informed my hon. Friend that representations in relation to a possible breach of section 231 of the Companies Act 1985 by Lonrho in relation to its Liechtenstein subsidiaries, Blorg and Contango, had been considered and he had decided to take no further action in the matter, the substance of which occurred some 20 years ago.
