To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what consultations he has had with brewers regarding the installation of no-smoking areas in pubs.

None. The provision of no-smoking areas in bars and restaurants is a matter for the owners. The Government do, however, welcome the extension of nonsmoking facilities in public places, since two thirds of the people in this country do not now smoke cigarettes.
