To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whether his proposed valleys development initiative, and the sums required for that initiative, will be additional to the levels of expenditure announced in Cm. 288—I and II.

§ Mr. Peter Walker
The planned levels of expenditure indicated in "The Government's Expenditure Plans for 1988–89 to 1990–91" (Cm. 288 — I and II) include provision for my proposals to introduce a programme to revitalise the south Wales valleys. The planned level of expenditure in years beyond 1988–89 is subject to review in the context of future public expenditure rounds.
