HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 cc535-6W
Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales which county councils have yet to establish permanent caravan sites for gipsies under the terms of the Caravan Sites Act 1968.

Mr. Grist

Only West Glamorgan county council has not yet established a permanent caravan site for gipsies, and it is in the process of providing one at Llansamlet, Swansea.

Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales which local authorities in Wales have already complied with the sections of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 relating to gipsies and have been granted the status of designated areas under the Act, or are in the process of seeking designation.

Mr. Grist

No area in Wales has been designated. Applications for designation have been made in respect of Aberconwy, Arfon, Dinefwr, Llanelli, Montgomery, Preseli and Ynys Môn districts.

Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales which local authorities in Wales are equipped for gipsies under the terms of the Caravan Sites Act 1968; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

All counties in Wales except West Glamorgan have at least one official site. All local authority gipsy sites in Wales are provided with basic facilities as recommended in annex A to Welsh Office circular 11/79 and conform with the standards laid down in the Welsh Office gipsy sites design guide.
