§ Mr. Ieuan Wyn JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities in England are equipped for gipsies, under the terms of the Caravan Sites Act 1968; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. RoeAll grant-aided local authority gipsy sites in England are provided with basic facilities as recommended in annex A to Department of the Environment circular 11/79 and conform with the standards laid down in the Department's gipsy sites design guide.
§ Mr. Ieuan Wyn JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities in England have already complied with the sections of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 relating to gipsies and have subsequently been granted the status of designated areas under the Act, or are in the process of seeking such designation.
§ Mrs. RoeA total of 22 London boroughs, 10 former county boroughs, five entire counties and 58 individual districts have been designated under the 1968 Act. These figures take account of one designation order which has been made but will not come into force until February. Eight applications for designation are at present before my right hon. Friend.
§ Mr. Ieuan Wyn JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which county councils in England have yet to establish permanent caravan sites for gipsies under the terms of the Caravan Sites Act 1968.
§ Mrs. RoeAll county councils in England except the Isle of Wight have established at least one permanent caravan site for gipsies.
