HC Deb 22 December 1988 vol 144 cc394-5W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will state for each English regional health authority the percentage resource differce from its resource allocation working party target for each year since 1983 including an estimate for the current year.

Mr. Mellor

The information requested is given in the table.

The range between regional health authorities' resource allocation working party targets has narrowed from 26 per cent. in 1977–78 to 11 per cent. in 1988–89. With the exception of North West Thames and North East Thames all regions are now within 4 per cent. of their target.

100 per cent. being the total United Kingdom population, of the major ethnic minority groupings in each of the last five years.

Mr. Freeman

The information requested is available only for Great Britain,; it is not available for Northern Ireland. The estimates are based on the annual labour force survey which now covers a sample of about 60,000 households each year. The estimates for ethnic minority groups are subject to sampling error consequently, for many purposes, an average of the last three years figures is taken as the best estimate. An article recently published in "Population Trends 54" gives further details.
