To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has made any representations to the Japanese Government and the Japanese Environment Bureau to persuade them to accept limitations on CFC 113, as part of Her Majesty's Government's policy to protect the ozone layer.

No. I understand that Japan has ratified the Montreal protocol which limits production and consumption of five chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) including CFC113. The protocol will enter into force on 1 January 1989.
