Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish the terms of reference of the interdepartmental group reviewing the workings of the Data Protection Act; to what extent the group is initially concentrating its efforts on reporting on registration requirements; and whether it is intended that the group shall recommend changes to strengthen data subjects rights or the registrar's powers under the Act.

The terms of reference of the interdepartmental review committee on the Data Protection Act 1984 areTo review the Data Protection Act 1984 in the light of experience gained during its implementation, with particular reference to the impact on data users of the registration requirements; and to make recommendations.

The committee will review the Act as a whole and will recommend such changes as it considers necessary on any aspect of the Act.
