Mr. Devlin

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what measures the Government intend to introduce to ensure fair competition between British and foreign ports in 1992.

Mr. Portillo

We are pursuing the need for open and fair financial relations between public authorities and port undertakings within the European Community. The completion of the single European market will not worsen the competitive position of our ports.
