The Department is aware of the following closures of tobacco factories since 1 January 1980 to date:
- 1981—cigarette factory (Carreras Rothmans, Rayleigh, Essex)
- 1983—cigarette factory (Imperial Tobacco Ltd., Stirling)
- cigarette factory (Imperial Tobacco Ltd., Glasgow)
- cigar factory (Imperial Tobacco Ltd., Bristol)
- 1984—cigarette factory (Carreras Rothmans, Basildon)
- 1985—cigarette factory (Gallaher, Middleton)
- cigarette factory (Imperial Tobacco Ltd., Newcastle)
- cigar factory (Gallaher, Lisnafillan)
- 1986—cigarette factory (Carreras Rothmans, Carrickfergus)
- 1987—cigarette factory (Imperial Tobacco Ltd., Swindon)
- 1988—cigarette factory (Gallaher, Belfast)
