HC Deb 27 April 1988 vol 132 cc191-2W
48. Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will provide additional finance for housing authorities to accelerate repair, maintenance and rehabilitation schemes in the public sector housing stock in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

On 28 March, I announced details of the final housing capital allocations for 1988–89 for all district and islands councils. Allocations in respect of the housing revenue account block, which covers capital expenditure by local authorities on their own stock, totalled £445.2 million, an increase of £58 million on the provisional allocations issued in December 1987. These allocations are not hypothecated fior specific purposes and it is for each authority to determine its own priorities and to programme expenditure accordingly within the resources available to it.
