To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will state the total costs incurred by his Department on foreign travel during the financial year 1987–88 identified by(a) ministerial travel and (b) travel abroad by civil servants.

The exact costs incurred by this Department on foreign travel during the financial year 1987–88 are not yet known but are expected to total some £143,000, as follows:

Her Majesty's Inspectorate 39,000
Officials 72,000
