To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will list his official engagements in the County Palatine since he assumed office as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I have undertaken seven official engagements in the County Palatine since 1 assumed the office of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, twice in my capacity as Chancellor, as follows :

14 July 1987 pm Minister of State engagement : Keynote speech and panel discussion at the Alvey Conference, university of Manchester institute of science and technology, Manchester.

24 July 1987 am Chancellor of the Duchy engagement : Chancellor, Mrs. Clarke, Mr. Smith (Principal Private Secretary) and Mrs. Smith joined Her Majesty the Queen for lunch at Crewe Hall Farm, Cheshire.

24 July 1987 pm Minister of State engagement : Launch of Preston task force at Preston town hall. Accompanied by Mr. Atkins. Chancellor of the Duchy engagement : Attendance at Magistrate's Association annual summer training conference round-up dinner at Lancaster university, keynote speaker right hon. Douglas Hurd, MP.

9 October 1987 pm Minister of State engagement : BBC Radio 4's "Any Questions Panel" in Liverpool.

19 February 1988 Political engagements: Meeting with Manchester action committee (St. James' Club, Manchester); tour of Salford quays; Cheadle Conservative association champagne buffet and reception (Bramhall).

26 February 1988 am Inner cities visit: accompanied Prime Minister for launch of information technology institute at Salford university; opening of Campbell's new manufacturing facility at Salford quays.

14 June 1988 Inner cities visit : Inner cities working breakfast in Liverpool. Accompanied by Mr. Trippier. Opportunities for other Liverpool inner city/regional engagements to be added as the Minister wishes.

13 July 1988 (notified to DTI-NW am 15 April 1988) Inner cities visit : Opening new premises at Plastics (Manchester) Limited in Levenshulme. Mr. Clarke has also agreed to open Hoskyn Group Plc's new premises in Sale. Again, opportunities for other Manchester/ Salford inner city or regional engagements to be added, as the Minister wishes.
