Mr. Amess

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many European Economic Community nationals are attending university in Britain; and how many British citizens are attending university in other European Economic Community countries.

There were 5,400 students from European Community countries attending universities in the United Kingdom in 1985–86, and 7,500 attending all higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. Available data for United Kingdom students studying in other European Economic Community countries cover all higher education, except for France and Netherlands, and are as follows:
