HC Deb 21 October 1987 vol 120 c836W
Sir Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he has now taken to ensure that the London borough of Camden complies with its statutory obligations in connection with right-to-buy applications from its tenants.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Secretary of State has been considering whether to use his power to intervene and take over sales in view of the council's failure to comply with the statutory deadlines for the handling of applications. I understand that the council has now decided to create new posts to deal with this work, that instructions have been given for the staff to be recruited as soon as possible, and that recruitment is in hand. When all the posts are filled, the council expects to be able to issue 120 to 140 offer notices each month. The Department will continue to monitor progress closely.
