HC Deb 21 October 1987 vol 120 c780W
Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action has been taken to ensure that those in prisons, psychiatric and general hospitals arid other institutions are made aware of their right to register under the Immigration Act 1981, and of the need to do so before December.

Mr. Renton

A circular instruction has been sent to governors of all prison service establishments with supplies of the free information leaflet "Your Right to British Citizenship", and posters to display to draw the attention of all inmates to the leaflet. An article about the ending this year of certain rights to register as a British citizen has appeared in the October issue of the NHS "Management Bulletin".
