§ Mr. AltonTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received confirming the storage of chemical weapons in Britain ; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Ian StewartMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has received a number of representations from hon. Members and members of the public on this subject. The United Kingdom gave up its chemical weapons capability in the late 1950s. We have received no requests to store other countries' chemical weapons here. If any such request were ever to be received, it would be a matter for decision by the Government of the day in the light of all the circumstances prevailing at the time.
