HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 cc323-4W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what has been the minimum, mean and maximum flow of the River Roe recorded at Ardnargle, Limavady, in each of the last five years and on 21 October.

Mr. Needham

[holding answer 10 November 1987]: Mean flows at the Ardnargle gauging station are not normally calculated (and cannot be produced within the time available).

The other information requested is fallows:

Maximum cubic metres per second Minimum cubic metres per second
1982 163.0 1.09
1983 100.8 0.99
1984 179.0 0.75
1985 170.4 0.99
1986 148.3 0.91
11987 171.0 0.91
1 To date.

The maximum flow recorded so far in 1987, 171 cu m per second occurred at 0200 on 22 October. However in the flood of 21–22 October 1987 the banks were widely breached upstream of the automatic recording gauge resulting in a lower figure being recorded than would have been the case had the flow been contained within the floodbanks.
