HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 c6W
80. Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress is being made in implementing projects financed under the £140 million concessional loans arrangement with Indonesia.

Mr. Chris Patten

I discussed progess on the concessional loan arrangement with Indonesian Ministers during my recent visit. We agreed there was a need to press on with implementation as quickly as possible. To date I have approved six proposals worth £124 million, the most recent being one for £7 million to provide diesel generators. Contracts in respect of two of these six have been signed and are being implemented; the others are at or near the contract negotiation stage or, in the case of the diesel generators, about to go to tender. Other projects which would fully utilise the facility are being considered.
