HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 c21W
Mr. Favell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has yet reached a decision on the case of Mr. and Mrs. Masoud Taghinejadi in response to the letters to him from the hon. Member for Stockport of 7 September and 22 October.

Mr. Renton

I wrote to my hon. Friend on 4 November.

Mr. Randall

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish the results of the pilot trial involving the use of DNA techniques in immigration control; and whether the Government will use DNA, without charge to the applicant, as part of their entry clearance procedures.

Mr. Renton

The Department is awaiting the last few test results from cases in the pilot trial, and a report will then be prepared, a copy of which will be placed in the Library. We shall consider what part DNA testing might play in our entry control procedures and how it should be funded when we have studied the results of the pilot trial.
