HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 cc21-2W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what factors he attributes the increase between 1985–86 and 1986–87 in his Department's expenditure on press advertising.

Mr. Hurd

Overall advertising expenditure by the Home Office fell from £4 million in 1985–86 to £3.6 million in 1986–87. The increase in press advertising expenditure (to £1,150,000 in 1986–87, not £1,366,000 as incorrectly given in reply to the hon. Member on 3 November, at columns622–23) was balanced by a reduction in television and other media expenditure. This change reflected the judgment of our advertising advisers on the usefulness of particular media for particular campaigns.
