HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 cc84-5W
Mr. Anthony Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will review the proposal in the forthcoming housing benefit regulations not to allow users of community alarms for the elderly to claim benefit for the cost.

Mr. Portillo

The draft regulations for the reformed housing benefit scheme, laid before Parliament on 3 November 1987, ensure that housing benefit will continue to be available to help with the cost of emergency alarm systems provided in rented accommodation, where the accommodation is particularly suitable for and occupied by elderly, sick or disabled people.
